The Annual Financial and Professional Services Dinner

It was my utmost pleasure to host the Annual Financial and Professional Services Dinner on the 14th of November at Mansion House. I was delighted to welcome Chancellor Rt Hon Rachel Reeves for her first Mansion House speech. This was a historic moment, being the first time a woman Chancellor of the Exchequer has delivered this address.

The Chancellor of the Exchequer's first speech at Mansion House

The Chancellor focussed on increasing investment into the UK, and built on the discussions from the International Investment Summit of last month. The Chancellor’s plans to unlock as much as £80 billion worth of investment to grow the economy are critical if the Government wants to achieve the objectives of its new industrial strategy. All in the City wish to work closely with the Chancellor and her ministerial colleagues to ensure the UK can realise its full potential.

In my speech, I proposed a number of practical measures that would strengthen UK public markets and in the long term, create a deeper UK capital market. You can read my speech in full here.

With thanks to the Governor of the Bank of England, Andrew Bailey, for speaking, and his comments on supporting future growth.

With thanks to all who attended.
